I Baltic Biennale in Manege Art Center in St. Petersburg
THE BALTIC BIENNIAL INSTITUTE
The Art Center named after S.P.Dyagilev, the Smolny College of liberal arts
and sciences of Saint Petersburg State University, the central exhibition hall
the Manege with the support of the government of Saint Petersburg, the Committee
for Culture, the Administration of the State Hermitage offer to hold I Baltic
Biennial in Saint Petersburg on July, 4-5, 2008. The aim of this project is
to give a new impetus to the art life of Saint Petersburg and to increase the
city’s role in the international culture life.

This year the Baltic Biennial will be held within the framework of the Baltic
Cities Festival by the proposal of the vice-governor S.B.Tarasov.
Now there is an international tendency to the unification of the creative people
able to protect the humanistic principles. Communication, the exchange of opinions,
the participation in disputes and scientific conferences are necessary for the
intensive development of the worldwide community and even more important for
the neighbors – the Scandinavian and Baltic countries – Germany,
Denmark, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Russia, Finland, Sweden, Estonia.
The Baltic Biennial project aims at showing the special features of the modern
culture of the Baltic countries, the importance of the culture of the region
in the context of the world culture.
The Baltic Biennial institute is a long-term creation of the efficient infrastructure
of the interaction between culture workers from different countries, scientists,
artists and the authorities, artists and citizens in Saint Petersburg. Different
governmental and state institutions, universities, social organizations, artistic
unions and museums are participating in the creation of this infrastructure.
We are inviting to the partnerships the Consulates of Germany, Denmark, Latvia,
Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Russia, Finland, Sweden, Estonia.
The Baltic Biennials will include:
- Pictorial art, music, cinematography, mass media, performance, art criticism
the analysis of culture, international workshops, conferences, congresses on
the fundamental problems of the modern humanism studies, artistic practice and
theory;
- International organizational, consulting and representational actions together
with the organizing committees of the famous biennale and art festivals;
